QSB Application Checklist

Checklist for Applicants to QSB Graduate Studies:

1. Review QSB research programs at the "Research Topic" section

2. Review QSB degree requirements at the "Policies and Procedures" section

3. Review fellowship opportunities at http://graduatedivision.ucmerced.edu/financial-support; initiate fellowship applications if applicable.

4. Identify the research groups within QSB for whom you might be a good candidate. Contact the faculty members of these groups directly by email or by contact the QSB Admissions Committee via the online contact form. Let them know you are interested in submitting an application and ask whether they are currently recruiting students. Note: You will not be admitted unless a faculty advisor admits you to their group.

5. Review application instructions and initiate application at http://graduatedivision.ucmerced.edu/prospective-students/how-apply.

6. List three potential faculty advisors on the application under the question, "If you have communicated with a program or faculty member regarding graduate study at UC Merced, please list the name of the program(s) and/or the individual(s)." Failure to list at least one potential advisor may result in rejection of your application.

7. Submit transcripts showing undergraduate GPA of 3.2 or higher in math/science coursework. If GPA is lower than 3.2, clearly indicate in your Personal Statement why an exception should be made for you.

8. Submit GRE scores showing scores of at least 460 Verbal, 600 Quantitative, and 4.0 Writing. If any of your scores is lower than any of these, clearly indicate in your Personal Statement why an exception should be made for you.

9. Submit at least three letters of recommendation in accordance with the directions at http://graduatedivision.ucmerced.edu/prospective-students/how-apply.

10. Finalize application and pay application fee prior to January 15. Note: Early applications are encouraged.

11. If you have not had a response to your application by February 15, follow up with the faculty members with whom you are interested in working.

12. If you still have not had a response to your application by March 15, it is unlikely that you will be admitted for graduate study with QSB.
