Professional Title:
Graduate Student in the Nishiguchi Lab
Unit:
Molecular and Cell Biology
Bio:
Daravuth Cheam is a first-year graduate student with an bachelor's degree in microbiology. He works in the Nishiguchi Lab which does research on the symbiotic interactions between bobtail squids and bioluminescent Vibrio bacteria. His research project focuses on how biotic factors, in particular protozoan grazing, can cause Vibrio biofilms to evolve. These evolved strains of Vibrio biofilms will be assessed both outside and inside their squid host for a number of parameters including luminescence, host colonization, inter-strain competition, biofilm formation, and more.
